Government Official Says MoD Investigating Potential Threat from Vehicles from China, with Personnel Advised to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defense official has stated that the MoD is currently examining the potential threats posed by Chinese cars, and staff have been told to avoid discussing secret matters in any vehicles.

Security Guidance for MoD Personnel

During a recent appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on claims that MoD staff have been instructed not to discuss secret material while riding in China-made cars.

He explained that the ministry is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its fleets, but stressed that security is a concern in every modern vehicles.

Our department has a fleet of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles account for a very small number.
However regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug MoD devices into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a classified level in any kind of car, because of the growing threats of surveillance that are present in every single vehicle, to restrict those secret conversations in protected areas. This is a wise and sensible thing for everyone concerned about security.

After it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard responded: ‘That’s precisely what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Defence Background

This announcement comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose kill switches in Chinese-made buses, which could enable the Chinese government to switch off public transport and bring chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russian spy ship has been shining lasers at Royal Air Force pilots, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by defence officials.

This wider security environment highlights the significance of robust protocols and caution in every aspects of official operations, including transport use to communication habits.
